During the first half of 2020, Micron Group was engaged by property group Jones Lang LaSalle to design and install a shared data network for Sydney’s renowned International Tower One, Barangaroo. The data cabling installation would be customized to the specific network needs of the tower and incorporate hundreds of meters of high-speed multimode fibre optic cable, shielded data cabling, steel cable tray support structures, and would include numerous IP network devices and access points, ultimately extending across multiple floors of the iconic tower.

Micron Group engineers began to conceptualize and design the network solution. Once the design was approved technicians began work on the installation. The main fibre optic cable was installed between the tower’s low, mid, and high-rise levels, and unified to individual floors by Seimon Cat 6A data cabling. The floor data cabling installation was connected by Micron Group technicians to dedicated POE network switches, high-speed wireless access points were installed and configured on every floor allowing users to connect seamlessly to the secured network.

Micron’s data cabling installation, and network solution was to provide the multi occupancy floors with a single unified network with seamless transitions across all spaces. This data cabling installation employed a dedicated fibre 100MB/s service into a dedicated rack and patch panel which was then distributed throughout the building using dedicated fibre network uplinks and gigabit switching. This design solution provided high speed Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the shared spaces, without the need to reconnect or reenter a password on each floor. The data network was then divided into three separate networks, AV, User and Guest to ensure a seamless, secure experience for all connected users and devices. The entire data network was designed so that all floor switches and Wi-Fi access points can be managed through a single network user interface, providing a unified data network security management system and reducing the need to physically access individual components for any future configuration changes or trouble shooting.

Our team of technicians were able to complete the fibre and data cabling installation over two weekends when the building was closed to the public, followed by four full days of splicing and termination of all fibre optic cables and shielded structured data cables. Testing and network configuration was completed by Micron Group engineers by use of the Fluke Versiv DSX Data Network Cable Certifier.

Since completion and handover of the network to building management, the network has experienced zero downtime and continues to provide high speed connectivity across all shared spaces within the high-rise building.
