Micron Project

22 Level Fitout, Foyer and EOT Facility

Micron Group completes a 22 floor upgrade to an exclusive commercial office building, providing contemporary A-grade tenancy areas, including main foyer, and end of trip facility. Micron Group was commissioned by project managers EVC to complete a multistage fit-out to one of Sydney’s commercial landmark towers, Colonial Centre.

The Colonial Centre originally built in 1936 is a noteworthy CBD landmark and is recognised by the iconic Rams head plaque signifying the original State Bank. Redesigned by Peddle, Thorp and Walker and rebuilt in the 1980’s by the State Bank of NSW the building now boasts unique character and centralised location.

Micron Group was appointed to propel the iconic structure beyond the 21st Century. The multilevel fit-out included the demolition and removal of all original building and tenancy electrical services to 22 floors. Each level received a new upgraded multi tenanted switchboard complete with custom metering and split chassis for essential generator load shedding of non-essential electrical services. Integrated to the switchboards and interfaced to the buildings communications room is a new commercial Cbus automation system, complete with state of the art surge protection.

In Partnership with Australian and overseas manufacturers, Micron Group designed the 5000 plus new non glare up-lights to complement the energy efficient design. Lobby’s, toilets, and corridors all received architectural energy efficient lights to complement a sleek modern design. The new floors also received a new Thomas and Betts RF emergency lighting system linked to routers strategically mounted thought the buildings risers and linked to a central head end. A new Telstra mobile phone booster system was integrated to all floors by Micron engineers ensuring mobile users remain connected at every corner. MATV and pay TV services were installed by Micron Group and made available to all building tenants. The Buildings main foyer was upgraded from an 80’s art deco style of architecture to a new contemporary look with cutting edge technology, automated lighting, including networked IP intercoms and cameras. End of trip facilities were upgraded to entice the most enthusiastic cyclists, complete with new LED automatic lighting, power outlets, safety lighting and security.

The project taking three years to complete was proclaimed an absolute success ensuring the building remains a landmark for many years to come.
