POWER FACTOR CORRECTION

Power Factor Correction

What is Power Factor?

Let’s first discuss Power Factor. Power Factor is the specific measure of how efficiently your premisses uses the electricity supply and is basically a ratio of real power (kW) to apparent power (kVA). If your Power Factor is bad, your energy bills will be high. With proper analysis and the installation of PFC units, Power Factor is easily corrected, ultimately saving thousands off your energy bill.

Low Power factor is usually contributed by a high inductive load in the building. These loads are usually inductive, the likes of electric motors and lift motors. If your power factor is low, you will be paying more for your electricity.

Power Factor Correction

Micron Group electricians and engineers supply and install Power Factor Correction (PFC) units to commercial and industrial buildings improving efficiency in turn saving you thousands of dollars off your electricity bills, and more importantly tons of CO emissions.

Power Factor Correction units are switchboard enclosures made up of capacitors and in some cases, inductors. PFC’s are configured in multiple stages or steps. The PFC units are connected to the main switchboard with advanced internal controls constantly monitoring the supply. Activated by a series of contactors each step is switched On and Off as needed by a central intelligent controller which constantly monitors the main electricity supply by its sophisticated sensors. When the power factor drops the main controller activates additional steps to ensure unity power factor.

Micron Group offer the latest generation of advanced performance PFC solutions. Our PFC units are efficient, compact and modular, most importantly they work to optimize your power supply ultimately saving thousands off your energy bill.

Don’t Waste Energy Power Factor Correction

Are You Wasting Energy?
Do You Need Power Factor Correction?

Sustainable and efficient power is paramount in what we do. Power factor is a measurement of how efficient your building is at using the electrical supply, When it comes to power the Ideal Power factor should be 1 or unity, a power factor of -0.8 indicates 80% of power supplied to your business is being used and 20% is being wasted.

Decreased (or bad) Power Factor leads not only to wasted energy but also excess electrical current. What does this mean? In general, it means an increase in cable sizes, transformers, and electrical infrastructure, ultimately affecting the longevity, lifespan, and future expansion of an installation.

Analysing Power Factor

How Do We Analyse Your Power Factor?

Before installing any Power Factor Correction, Micron Group technicians will use analytic software and advanced power analysers to Audit Power Factor and Energy, in this way we clearly identify electricity supply quality.

By installing monitoring equipment to switchboards, we clearly identify Power Factor, harmonic interference, and other inefficiencies within your electrical system and recommend appropriate measures to correct all faults.

Power Factor Correction Installation

Power Factor Correction Installation

Micron Group supply and install premium Power Factor Correction units which are connected to your premises main switchboard. Once installed the units monitor the buildings electrical parameters including electrical current, voltage, & harmonics. Power factor represented as a value of COS Φ is calculated and automatically adjusted as the building load changes throughout the day.

After careful analysis our technicians will supply and install adequately sized PFC units using best practice techniques ensuring power disruptions due to installation are minimized to the absolute bare minimum. After each installation all PFC units are optimized, serviced and thermal scanned using the latest in IR thermal scanning techniques ensuring a flawless install.

PFC Sustainability

Reduce Current Draw
Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
Save Money

Power factor correction reduces the total current drawn from the electrical distribution network in effect reducing strain on your power system, by implementing PFC units transmission losses experienced are reduced in turn reducing your carbon footprint.

In addition low power factor may cause power losses and voltage drops, which can contribute to overheating and failure of motors and other equipment. If your electrical system is near capacity, installation of power factor correction equipment may help avoid costly infrastructure upgrades by lowering the existing electrical demand on your system and improving efficiency stability.

Whatever your Power Factor requirements the team at Micron Group will provide a comprehensive turn key solution. From analysis of your building’s energy and Power Factor to the installation, maintenance or upgrade of core infrastructure, Micron Group are here to help. Give us call today! 02 9221 6155
